H Leffler & Son Pty Ltd has been trading since 1932 and is a third generation 100% Australian owned family business wholesaling leather to the furniture, garment, saddlery, leathercraft, shoe repair, orthopaedic, footwear, aviation, marine, automotive, design and architectural industries.
We only source our leather from the most reputable tanneries in the world. Amongst our many tanneries most are certified to at least to one of the following standards:
ISO 14001 Environmental management systems & ISO14001: 2004 as audited by UKAS.
"As the importance of the environment plays an increasing role in business, more and more “Green Standards” appear. One standard exists above all these, however. ISO14001 is the original and still the most exacting measure of a company’s environmental commitment."
ISO 9001 Products are manufactured to the quality system ISO an organisation specialising in the world benchmark standards.
Our tanneries for many years have been required by local authorities to implement ESD policies to comply with new standards and create efficiencies to reduce the impact of the tanneries on our environment. Leather is purely a by-product of the food industry and is manufactured into leather hides for furniture, saddles, garments, footwear, automotive, aviation, marine and leathercraft industries.
As a consequence of our tanneries environmental commitment new technologies are constantly being developed to help reduce the effects that the leather industry has on the environment. Recent improvements by some of our tanneries are noted below:
• Gas use has been decentralized with additional radiant heaters resulting in a 40% reduction in gas usage.
• Good energy management has seen a 20% reduction in electricity usage per hide.
• The use of solvents has been reduced by 16%.
• Plastic is now recycled further reducing the burden on landfill. Overall waste packaging has been reduced by 6 %. |
